What Is Wealth? Special Report From ETR's Info-Marketing Bootcamp

Bootcamp Dispatch

By Jason Holland

What do you really need to start building a life-changing amount of wealth?

Your 401(k) ain't gonna do it. Neither is your day job.

The 200 aspiring Internet entrepreneurs at Bootcamp know. It was the subject of Michael Masterson's keynote speech: The Special Theory of Automatic Wealth.

It all starts with the true nature of wealth.

"What is wealth?" asked Michael.

First, let's consider what wealth is not. Wealth is not income. Even having a huge income is not wealth. Wealth is not a lifestyle with fancy cars and a huge house. Or investing in hot stocks. Anything rented, borrowed, or mortgaged - anything that can be taken away from you – is not wealth. Those are the trappings of wealth.

Wealth is stored, unencumbered value. That means retained income, savings, tangible investments, and financially-valuable and timeless skills. Anything with true value.

So how do you get this wealth?

Why is it that some people, no matter how privileged or how much income they have, are unable to really accumulate long-lasting wealth and others can?

It all boils down to the decisions you make.

Every conscious moment is an opportunity to become richer or poorer. Whether you'll work on a project now... or later. Whether you'll act on what you learn at a seminar... or get too busy and put it aside. Whether you'll spend your "off" time gaining new skills... or watching game shows.

A person with a rich mind understands this concept. He is aware of these enriching opportunities. He can assess their value instantly. And he has the internal, emotional capacity to act on this information.

A person with a poor mind think the world is unfair. He believes in luck. He thinks there is a limited amount of wealth in the world – and he wants his cut. He feels powerless over his fate. He uses his energy criticizing, complaining, and condemning. This is someone who will never become wealthy.

Not all the decisions we make have to make us richer, said Michael. But when you make enough of these little decisions you start getting momentum. All these little decisions build and accumulate. Once you start making enriching decisions they will come easier and easier. And you will find more opportunities, accumulate more assets. Eventually, you'll discover you're very confident that you can build as much wealth as you want.

Here's what it boils down to: Every situation is an opportunity. Every person you meet... every conversation... every book you read... every speech you hear... every meal you eat... every spending decision... every chance you are given... every problem you face... is a chance to become richer or poorer.

And if you have a poor mind... or are just skeptical... or find it hard to "take action" all is not lost. You can change and develop your own rich mind in eight simple steps:

1. Forgive yourself for being imperfect

2. Educate yourself out of ignorance

3. Practice yourself out of incompetence.

4. Develop rich skills:
  • Think well (have capacity to ask questions, gain an ability to trust your gut instinct)
  • Speak well (speak from the heart and with enthusiasm, have purpose in your conversation, learn the art of persuasion)
  • Write well (a combination of being persuasive and being able to identify great ideas)
5. Recognize opportunity in everything

6. Take action (start right away)

7. Take profits and save them (don't spend more than you have. As your income increases, keep your spending reasonable. When you make money, pay yourself first – always put money in savings.)

8. Continue to learn. Be an avid learner, be interested in everything.

Michael continues to develop his Special Theory of Automatic Wealth. And you'll see his thoughts in future issues of ETR. But this is the core idea – and what you can take away today:

Every conscious moment we all have the capacity to make these decisions. This gives all of us enormous potential power. You have this capacity if you just allow yourself to be aware of these opportunities, recognize their value, and take action.

As Michael said, "Right here, right now is your opportunity."

Learn 50 Things About Sarah Palin

I don't mean to monopolize all of my posts about Sarah Palin, but I have spent a lot of time researching her life. Since she might be our next Vice President, I feel it's important that everyone know as much as possible about her.

I started a new blog called 50 Things About... located at 50ThingsAbout.com. The first post is about Palin and lists 50 things about her life. I'd like to invite you to visit on a daily basis as I'll feature 50 things about different people, places and things that are in the news or happen to be in my head at the time.

A few things you'll learn about Palin:
  • She and her husband Todd eloped shortly after she graduated from college.
  • She returned to work in the governor's office just three days after giving birth to her latest child, Trig.
  • In response to high oil and gas prices, Palin proposed to give all Alaskans a $100 a month energy debit card. Later, she dropped this idea in favor of sending them $1,200 directly from the state.
These are just three of the 50 things you'll learn about her. Give it a look.

Until later, make it a great day!

How Do You Find Time To Blog?

I can't tell you how many times I've been asked this question by both friends and business associates alike. My simple answer is always something like, "Oh, it's easy since I really enjoy it."

But, the reality is we all really enjoy a lot of things, but we don't always get around to DOING those things. So, I thought about the question and thought I would offer up two main reasons for either "current" or "future" bloggers on how I manage to find time to blog.

The first reason is very simple and truly is the reason I blog. I really love blogging. Ever since I started this blog back in late 2005, I really enjoy finding new articles and writing stories that I hope you will enjoy. It's cliche, but if you love what you do, you'll make the time to do it.

The second reason how I find time to blog is a technical reason that far too many bloggers don't take advantage of. If you're using blogger.com or wordpress.com as your blogging platform, you need to use the scheduled posting option. I'm sure most of the other blogging platforms out there have a similar feature, but since I'm only familiar with these two, I can only speak for them.

I thought this was a feature that every blogger used. Well, I thought wrong. Recently, I was chatting with a business acquaintance who also blogs. In the process of the conversation, he mentioned how he loved blogging, but it was so hard to find the time every day to enter a post. I asked him why he doesn't use the scheduled post option, and he had the deer-in-the-headlight look. That's when the light bulb went off for me. I thought, "maybe a lot of bloggers don't know about this, or even though they know, they don't use it."

I am here to tell you right now, if you blog, you need to start using the scheduled posts option. If you're not familiar with it, it's actually very simple. After you have written a post, click on the post options link and choose the date and time for your post to be posted. On that particular date and time, the post will be published.

And, here's my personal routine for posting to my blogs. I pick out one day, usually for me it's Sunday afternoon, where I am going to spend a couple of hours doing nothing but adding posts. I try and go ahead and add posts for each day of the following week. That way, if something comes up during the week that I want to write about immediately, I can, but I don't have to worry about not having a post published for that day. And, frequent posting is the #1 way to increase traffic to your blog because a stale blog creates stale results in the search engines.

If you have other ways you find time to blog, please let us know about it by using the comments form below. As I said, a lot of you are probably already using the scheduled posts option, but if you're not, I recommend you take a look at it tonight. It will definitely help free up more of your time during the week.

Until later, make it a great day!

Get Your Credit Score Free With No Strings Attached

This morning, I caught a segment on the morning news by Clark Howard, who is a financial advisor/consumer watchdog/radio personality type who lives here in Atlanta. He can be annoying sometimes, but I respect his opinions/suggestions because he's always on the lookout for ways to help people save money and avoid getting ripped off.

His segment this morning was about obtaining your credit score. You've probably seen the numerous ads on tv and the Internet regarding getting your credit score and report for free. The problem with almost all of these offers is they all come with a catch. Most make you sign up for their credit monitoring service. For instance, I love the commercials for FreeCreditReport.com. You've probably seen this one:

It's funny, catchy and extremely memorable and effective. And, while the service does give you your free credit report, it also, and I quote from the site,

"When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring. If you don't cancel your membership within the 7-day trial period**, you will be billed $14.95 for each month that you continue your membership."

That's the part that I don't like about these types of offers. So many people sign up and think they're going to cancel, only to realize 6 months later they never did and have now paid almost $90 for the opportunity to see THEIR OWN credit report. Shouldn't you be able to see this at any time for free? After all, it is YOUR credit report.

Ok, back to the Clark Howard report. He mentioned the following site: www.Quizzle.com. It is owned by Quicken, so you can feel safe that it's not a fly-by-night scam. And, it's completely free with no catch. All you do is fill out a short form and once registered, you can view your credit report, your home's current valuation and a condensed version of your entire credit report. And, the site offers a ton of valuable calculators and sections to help you understand your report as well as your current financial situation. And again, there's no catch. It's completely free.

So, there you have it. While the above commercial is memorable, it's no wonder there's a catch for their service. There has to be because they've got to make a ton of money to pay for all those funny commercials.

Until later, make it a great day!

Americans Don't Agree On Much, But We All Agree The Bible Is The #1 Book Of All-Time

A new Harris Poll revealed that America's favorite book is the Bible.

When it comes to literary pursuits in the United States most people agree on at least one thing -- the most popular book is the Bible, according to a new survey."

"Finally, they may not agree on candidates, but one thing that brings together partisans is their favorite book. For Republicans, Democrats and Independents, the top two books are the same -- the Bible followed by "Gone With the Wind."

If we're all going to agree on one thing, then I'm glad this is it. To read the full article and find out which other books Americans like, please visit this page on Yahoo.com.

Helpful Tips For Chatting Up The Family During The Holidays

The holiday season is always nice because you get to see friends and relatives that you may not have seen in quite some time. But, if you're not the best at starting conversations, I found an interesting article on Gimundo.com that might help you "break the ice." Here are some of the tips from the article:
  • Pretend you're Oprah. Every one of your relatives has some sort of passion in their lives – the key to an interesting conversation is to draw it out.
  • Agree and expand. Small talk can be boring – but there's a simple way to take it to the next level. If your mother complains about the dollar's value being low overseas, don't just nod your head in assent – offer a thought of your own...
  • Find common ground. If you don't want to get sucked into a fight about politics or religion, it's always best to prepare a few topics of conversation that won't provoke controversy. Try bringing up movies, music, etc.
To read the complete article, go to this page on Gimundo.com.

Good luck and make it a great day!

Daisy The Dog Finds A "Mammoth" Bone

Talk about doggie heaven... This little dachshund named Daisy found this eight pound bone that archaeologists say was part of a thigh bone of a wolly mammoth, which has been extinct for over 2 million years.

Unfortunately, Daisy wasn't able to feast on her find, but that's probably a good thing since the bone wouldn't have tasted very good.

To read more about Daisy and her "mammoth" find, go to this page on the Daily Mail.

Five Ways You Can Help Save Animals' Lives

Gimundo.com has a great little article about five ways you can help save the lives of animals. Here are the five ways:

Adopt from a shelter.
This is a no-brainer, but there are still thousands of pets who are put to sleep in shelters around the country on a daily basis. Before you call or visit a breeder, visit your local shelter and give some lucky pet a second chance at life. They'll definitely return the favor... PetFinder.com is a good place to start looking for a pet to adopt if you aren't sure where your local animal shelter is located.

Foster.
I love this concept. A good friend of mine was fostering a Weimaraner, and they are now going to adopt it.

Volunteer at a shelter.
Self-explanatory - If you can't adopt or foster a pet, then the next best thing is to volunteer at your local shelter.

Spay or neuter your pets.
Without a doubt, this is one of the most important things you can do as a pet owner to help control the pet population.

Donate to an animal welfare organization.
These organizations can't operate without money. Let's do our part and keep them in business.

What Do You Want To Do With Your Life? How About 43 Things...

Strange title to a post, huh? Bare with me because there's a reason. I found a website this morning that I think is pretty cool. It's called 43Things.com. It's a social networking website with a good purpose. What can you do on the site?

It's pretty simple really. You list 43 things that you want to do with your life. If you're stuck and can't think of all 43 things, then you can take a look at what others want to do and maybe add one of there things to your list. If you've already done something that someone else wants to do, you can share your story with them and the world. It's a neat site that I think you'll enjoy. Until tomorrow...

Good luck and make it a great day!

Too Busy To Own A Dog? Why Not Rent One...

At first, I thought this was a little strange, but after looking over their website and reading some articles about it, it's actually a pretty cool idea. Basically, if you're too busy or not at home much, but would like a dog, you can rent one for the day, week, month, etc.

"FLEXPETZ is a shared dog ownership concept that provides it's members with access to a variety of dogs. All dogs complete obedience training and some are also certified as therapy dogs."

Considering how many people get a dog only to find they don't have enough time to take care of it, and then end up taking it to the pound, I think this is a good idea. If you're like I was, you probably have some questions about it though. This page on their site should answer most of them...

Good luck and make it a great day!

Americans Are The Most Giving People On The Planet

This doesn't come as a surprise to me. As you know, I believe that many more positive things happen every day than negative things. And, Americans overwhelmingly give more money to charity than anyone else in the world. According to this USA Today article, Americans gave almost $300 Billion dollars to charity last year, and almost 3/4 of that came from individual donors. This proves my point. Americans want to live positive lives and they want to help others live positive lives.

Keep up the good work America! You are making a difference, no doubt about it.

Happiness, Freedom and Peace of Mind Can Be Attained By...

"There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life -- happiness, freedom, and peace of mind -- are always attained by giving them to someone else."
