Seth Wescott Wins Gold Medal and Other News Stories

Good morning and Happy Friday to you! Here are some of the stories making headlines today:

  • Did you see Seth Wescott win the Gold medal in Snowboard Cross last night at the Olympics? I love snowboarding, so this was an exciting event to watch. Read more about Seth's win on NBCOlympics.com.
  • I am not a huge figure skating fan, but my wife is a wonderful figure skater, so I have learned more about the sport and watched the men's final last night. What I was impressed with was the struggles and sacrifices that the men's gold medal winner, Yevgney Plushenko, has endured to ascend to the upper eschelon of his sport. If you haven't heard his story, it's impressive. At a very young age, he moved from his small home near Siberia to St. Petersburg and started training with the world renowned coach, Aleksei Mishin. He had to leave his family behind, but always vowed he would make them proud and win the gold medal. He has now done just that. Click here to read more about his life.
  • I knew firefighters had to do a variety of jobs like fighting fires, rescuing cats stuck in trees, but how about this one... Rescuing a Valentine stuck in a tree! This is a heartwarming story about a young boy who sent up a Valentine in a balloon in honor of his mother who died from cancer. Unfortunately, the balloon became entangled in a tree. However, the fire department arrived to save the day. Read the entire story on HappyNews.com.
  • Tiger Woods opened a new $11 million, 35,000-square-foot learning facility near Anaheim, California this week. He donated $5 million dollars of his own money to the project. I have been a big fan of Tiger's ever since he joined the tour, and this story makes me like him even more. Good job Tiger. Keep up the good work. Make it a great day!
