Support Our Troops - Give To The USO

I don't care if you're a Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libertarian, member of the Green Party or any other political affiliation, there's no denying the fact that our young men and women who are in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan and other places around the world need our support.

They are there, and we are here. We have the freedom to speak out against the war. We have the freedom to speak out for the war. We have the freedom to do and say anything we want in this great country BECAUSE of the sacrifice that these men and women have made and are making for us.

That is why I support the USO, and I hope you will as well. Contrary to what you may think, the USO is not a government organization. They rely on you and me to support them. And, according to their website, 89 cents of every $1.00 goes directly to supporting our G.I.'s. That's impressive. If you're not familiar with the USO, visit their website and read more about them. They're the ones who brought performers such as Bob Hope, Kid Rock and Robin Williams overseas to entertain the troops. They supply the troops with pre-paid phone cards, care packages and support for the families who are left behind while their loved ones are overseas.

If you'd like to join me in supporting the USO, visit their website and click on the GIVE NOW button. You can give as little or as much as you like. Every little bit helps.

Thanks and make it a great day!

Support The Troops - Send Them A Free Gift

I've been watching the HBO mini-series Generation Kill, which follows a platoon of Marines as they make their way through Iraq at the beginning of the Iraq conflict. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend you watch it as it's a rare look at what our soldiers are facing right now in Iraq.

HBO and it's partners have teamed up together to send the troops some specific items that the troops have requested. They're items such as band-aids, lotions, beef jerkey, magazines, etc.

If you go to this page on HBO's website, you can send the troops one of the items for free. There's no catch. Just visit the page for complete details. This is only going to be up for a limited time as they'll need to send the items over very soon. Don't miss this opportunity to help our troops.

Thanks and make it a great day!

President Bush Gives Medal of Honor To Navy SEAL

This is one of those stories that no matter what your political affiliation, will make you stop and truly appreciate the sacrifices that our men and women in the armed forces are making on a daily basis.

Navy SEAL Michael A. Monsoor gave his life to save his comrades in Iraq. It happened on a rooftop in Iraq. A grenade came out of nowhere and bounced off of Monsoor's chest. He knew that he could either jump off the roof and save himself, grab the grenade and try to throw it away before it exploded or jump on top of it and save the lives of his fellow soldiers. Without hesitation, Monsoor jumped on top of the grenade and saved his friends' lives.

Monsoor was given the Medal of Honor by President Bush in a ceremony last week at the White House. Monsoor's parents were on hand to accept the award. It was a very emotional service, and one that all those in attendance will never forget. To read the entire story of Monsoor's heroic act, please visit this page on HappyNews.com.

Remember our troops and make it a great day!

Nubs The Dog Travels 70 Miles To Reunite With Soldier In Iraq

This has to be one of the best stories I've heard out of Iraq in quite some time. A Marine named Major Dennis rescued a dog in Iraq who had been severely mistreated (his ears had been cut off and he had been stabbed with a screw driver by his Iraqi owners). Major Dennis nursed him back to health as best he could, but his troop was ordered to leave the area where they were, and they couldn't take Nubs with them. (He named him Nubs because of his ears.)

They traveled 70 miles away through the desert, and miraculously, Nubs found them. By the time Nubs found them, he was in bad shape again having traveled 70 miles in very treacherous terrain.

This time, Major Dennis knew he had to get Nubs out of Iraq. He started an email campaign and raised over $3,000 to get Nubs out of Iraq and to San Diego to stay with some friends until he can be reunited with him when he returns from Iraq himself. Nubs is supposed to be landing here in the U.S. any day now. I'll keep you updated as soon as I know he's here.

Here's the remarkable story.

Make it a great day!

Jolie Sees Benefit in US Surge in Iraq

It's not often that you see positive articles from celebrities about Iraq, but this article from Yahoo.com is just that.

According to the article, In an op-ed piece published by the Washington Post, titled "A Reason to Stay in Iraq," Jolie details the plight of refugees and says their conditions have not improved since she visited the country last August to urge governments to provide more support.

Later in the article, "When I asked the troops if they wanted to go home as soon as possible, they said that they miss home but feel invested in Iraq," she wrote. "They have lost many friends and want to be a part of the humanitarian progress they now feel is possible."

Family Adopts Slain Son's German Shepherd From Iraq

This is an amazing and heartfelt story. Dustin Lee was killed in Iraq earlier this year, and Lex, the K-9 German Shepherd who spent 24 hours a day with him in Iraq, has finally been adopted by Dustin's parents. When Dustin was killed by a road-side bomb, Lex would not leave his side and had to pulled away from him. Here's the video from the CBS Early Show:

We Are Making a Difference in Iraq

Here's a great story of how one soldier is making a difference in Iraq. The story is courtesy of HappyNews.com -- "Staff Sgt. James Lee looked like a proud father. A group of Iraqi Strategic Infrastructure Brigade soldiers, who Lee has been helping to train for six months, huddled around him after showing off their warrior skills during a demonstration for Maj. Gen. Benjamin Mixon, commander Multi-National Division North and 25th Infantry Division."

"The 1st SIB is charged with protecting the oil infrastructure here, including various pipelines, said Lt. Col. Jack Pritchard, commander 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. Achieving Iraq's full oil production capacity is a key to its economic recovery and rebuilding the refineries, wells and pipelines and keeping them safe from insurgent attacks is crucial.

Lee and his fellow 3-7 Soldiers have been working with the 1st SIB four days a week to improve their defense of strategic facilities."

And, here's the best part of this article:

"The SIB has always seemed happy not just to have us around but to learn from us," said Pvt. Balladine, 3-7. "They're squared away and usually eager to show us what they can do."

In an effort to get the SIB to train on their own, Lee has encouraged leaders to emerge. While unsure of themselves at first, Lee said that a few soldiers have taken charge and are training the group on their own."

To read the complete article, please go to this page on HappyNews.com.

Staff Sgt. Lee is one soldier who is doing his job and keeping us safe while training others to keep themselves safe. That's the way it supposed to be. Thank you, Sgt. Lee.

Make it a great day!

The Real Iraq

This morning, my wife and I were watching the news and they mentioned how over 3,000 American men and women had been killed in Iraq since the start of the war. While this is 3,000 too many soliders killed, I believe they did not die in vain. This video from Glenn Beck is a wonderful story about the real Iraq. Not the car bombings we hear about every day on the mainstream news, but what is really happening all over Iraq. Enjoy and God bless our troops!
