Sgt. John Gebhardt Comforting An Injured Iraqi Baby - A True American Soldier

I received the following story via email the other day, and I verified it's authenticity via Snopes.com.

Got a tough, but heartwarming story and a picture of John Gebhardt in Iraq. For those that did not know John, he was our former Med Group Chief, Dave Nordel replaced him. Anyway, his wife talked with mine last evening and sent this picture. Mindy related that this little girl's entire family was executed.

They intended to execute her also and shot her in the head but they failed to kill her. She was cared for by John's hospital and healing up, but has been crying and moaning. The nurses said John is the only one she seems to calm down with, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both sleep in that chair. The girl is coming along with her healing.

He is a real Star of the war and is representative of what America is trying to do.

Support Our Troops - Give To The USO

I don't care if you're a Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libertarian, member of the Green Party or any other political affiliation, there's no denying the fact that our young men and women who are in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan and other places around the world need our support.

They are there, and we are here. We have the freedom to speak out against the war. We have the freedom to speak out for the war. We have the freedom to do and say anything we want in this great country BECAUSE of the sacrifice that these men and women have made and are making for us.

That is why I support the USO, and I hope you will as well. Contrary to what you may think, the USO is not a government organization. They rely on you and me to support them. And, according to their website, 89 cents of every $1.00 goes directly to supporting our G.I.'s. That's impressive. If you're not familiar with the USO, visit their website and read more about them. They're the ones who brought performers such as Bob Hope, Kid Rock and Robin Williams overseas to entertain the troops. They supply the troops with pre-paid phone cards, care packages and support for the families who are left behind while their loved ones are overseas.

If you'd like to join me in supporting the USO, visit their website and click on the GIVE NOW button. You can give as little or as much as you like. Every little bit helps.

Thanks and make it a great day!

Support The Troops - Send Them A Free Gift

I've been watching the HBO mini-series Generation Kill, which follows a platoon of Marines as they make their way through Iraq at the beginning of the Iraq conflict. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend you watch it as it's a rare look at what our soldiers are facing right now in Iraq.

HBO and it's partners have teamed up together to send the troops some specific items that the troops have requested. They're items such as band-aids, lotions, beef jerkey, magazines, etc.

If you go to this page on HBO's website, you can send the troops one of the items for free. There's no catch. Just visit the page for complete details. This is only going to be up for a limited time as they'll need to send the items over very soon. Don't miss this opportunity to help our troops.

Thanks and make it a great day!

AMillionThanks.org - Sending Thank You Letters to our Troops

While watching the Wachovia championships (PGA Tour event) on TV today, I saw an ad for a website called www.amillionthanks.org. The organization was started by a California teenager named Shauna Fleming about three years ago. They send thank you letters to our military personnel stationed all over the world. It's a really cool service.

Click here to learn how you can submit a thank you letter to be sent to our troops. And, from not until Memorial Day, you can drop off your thank you card at a Buick, Pontiac or GMC dealership. The following video will give you a little more insight into Shauna's organization.

Warm Welcome Greets Freed British Crew

The 15 Royal Navy crew members who were held in captivity by the Iranian government have been freed and are now on British soil. This is good news. I wasn't sure how this was going to end, so I'm glad they were released unharmed. To read the complete story, please go to this page on Yahoo.

Bert Brady - Person of the Week - Welcome Home Soldier

This video is about three minutes long and one you'll definitely want to watch. Guys like Mr. Brady are what America is all about. Please forward this to as many people as you can. It's important to spread news like this. We don't want our soldiers of today treated the way the veterans of Korea and Vietnam were.

Make it a great day and enjoy the video!

We Are Making a Difference in Iraq

Here's a great story of how one soldier is making a difference in Iraq. The story is courtesy of HappyNews.com -- "Staff Sgt. James Lee looked like a proud father. A group of Iraqi Strategic Infrastructure Brigade soldiers, who Lee has been helping to train for six months, huddled around him after showing off their warrior skills during a demonstration for Maj. Gen. Benjamin Mixon, commander Multi-National Division North and 25th Infantry Division."

"The 1st SIB is charged with protecting the oil infrastructure here, including various pipelines, said Lt. Col. Jack Pritchard, commander 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. Achieving Iraq's full oil production capacity is a key to its economic recovery and rebuilding the refineries, wells and pipelines and keeping them safe from insurgent attacks is crucial.

Lee and his fellow 3-7 Soldiers have been working with the 1st SIB four days a week to improve their defense of strategic facilities."

And, here's the best part of this article:

"The SIB has always seemed happy not just to have us around but to learn from us," said Pvt. Balladine, 3-7. "They're squared away and usually eager to show us what they can do."

In an effort to get the SIB to train on their own, Lee has encouraged leaders to emerge. While unsure of themselves at first, Lee said that a few soldiers have taken charge and are training the group on their own."

To read the complete article, please go to this page on HappyNews.com.

Staff Sgt. Lee is one soldier who is doing his job and keeping us safe while training others to keep themselves safe. That's the way it supposed to be. Thank you, Sgt. Lee.

Make it a great day!

The Real Iraq

This morning, my wife and I were watching the news and they mentioned how over 3,000 American men and women had been killed in Iraq since the start of the war. While this is 3,000 too many soliders killed, I believe they did not die in vain. This video from Glenn Beck is a wonderful story about the real Iraq. Not the car bombings we hear about every day on the mainstream news, but what is really happening all over Iraq. Enjoy and God bless our troops!

Iraqi Army Delivers School Supplies to Children

Are you ready for some good news from Iraq? Here's a good story courtesy of HappyNews.com - "Children at Black Jewel (Zomorrud) School received a pleasant surprise from unexpected guests who delivered boxes of gifts Oct. 31.

Members of the 4th Iraqi Army (IA) joined by coalition forces brought pens, paper, pencils, candy and toys for children in the local community.

The primary focus of the IA is to conduct security operations in surrounding communities and combat deadly insurgency attacks. However, as the IA continues to expand in strength and numbers, it hopes to develop a more interconnected closeness with members of the local district.

"There have been those who at one time have gone into communities and filled people with terror. Part of the IA position is doing things that previous leadership has not done. We went to the school to let them know we are here to help and give supplies to the children. When we visit peoples' homes and schools to assist them, they begin to better understand our purpose and why we are here," said Iraqi Army Col. Arsalan, 4th Iraqi Army Division, G5.

The materials delivered were donated by members of Task Force Diamondhead, 25th Infantry Division Combat Aviation Brigade. Teachers brought children one class at a time to individually receive goodies. Although the surprise visit interrupted their classes, children relished the break as they anxiously waited in line for their turn to receive pens, paper and handfuls of candy that helped sweeten the deal.

Coalition forces were involved in the assignment however, they were only present as a support element for the IA's mission. The entire operation was planned, coordinated and executed by the 4th Iraqi Army.
