Kenny Perry's Interview After Losing The Masters In A Playoff - A Class Act

The 2009 Masters was one of the best Masters' in recent memory. The final round started out as the Tiger and Phil show, and it ended as the Angel and Kenny show. There were two major things I got out of watching the final round. Perseverance always pays off, and there is no substitute for class.

First, Angel Cabrera played steady all day, and at the end, even when the chips were down, he managed to persevere and made a par on the first playoff hole to extend the playoff. It was a true testament to his fortitude. Many players would have given up when Angel hit a tree on that first playoff hole, but he steadied himself and hit a great third shot and made a great putt for par. It's a good lesson in life. Always keep trying no matter what obstacles you may face because you never know when someone else is going to stumble and allow you to shine.

Class... Kenny Perry showed more class in his post round interviews' after losing the Masters than any other athlete I've ever seen in any sport. He was candid. He was honest. He was grateful, and he was gracious. Angel won the tournament, but I think Kenny won the hearts of most. Well done Angel and Kenny. You are both champions!

A Lion Called Christian: The True Story of the Remarkable Bond between Two Friends and a Lion

Remember this video from YouTube of the two men who befriended a lion called Christian. It was a remarkable story of the bond between two men and a lion.

The story behind the YouTube video is now for sale on Amazon, and it's definitely worth a look. With all the other negative news going on these days, it's nice to see a book like this getting a lot of publicity. The book is titled, A Lion Called Christian - The Story of the Remarkable Bond Between Two Friends and a Lion.

Here's the book's description from this page on Amazon:

In 2008 an extraordinary two-minute film clip appeared on YouTube and immediately became an international phenomenon. It captures the moving reunion of two young men and their pet lion Christian, after they had left him in Africa with Born Free’s George Adamson to introduce him into his rightful home in the wild.

A Lion Called Christian tells the remarkable story of how Anthony “Ace” Bourke and John Rendall, visitors to London from Australia in 1969, bought the boisterous lion cub in the pet department of Harrods. For several months, the three of them shared a flat above a furniture shop on London’s King’s Road, where the charismatic and intelligent Christian quickly became a local celebrity, cruising the streets in the back of a Bentley, popping in for lunch at a local restaurant, even posing for a fashion advertisement. But the lion cub was growing up—fast—and soon even the walled church garden where he went for exercise wasn’t large enough for him. How could Ace and John avoid having to send Christian to a zoo for the rest of his life?

A coincidental meeting with English actors Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers, stars of the hit film Born Free, led to Christian being flown to Kenya and placed under the expert care of “the father of lions” George Adamson. Incredibly, when Ace and John returned to Kenya to see Christian a year later, they received a loving welcome from their lion, who was by then fully integrated into Africa and a life with other lions.

Originally published in 1971, and now fully revised and updated with more than 50 photographs of Christian from cuddly cub in London to magnificent lion in Africa, A Lion Called Christian is a touching and uplifting true story of an indelible human-animal bond. It is is destined to become one of the great classics of animal literature.

Here's the full version of the original video. Enjoy!

Where Valor Rests - Arlington National Cemetery

"This unique and breath-taking video is part of the commemorative book, 'Where Valor Rests,' which honors and memorializes those who served our country as military members, and who died and are interred at Arlington National Cemetery."

This video drives home the true meaning of patriotism. We owe everything to the men and women of our armed forces who have died to preserve our freedom.

God Bless America! Make it a great day!

One-Legged Little League Baseball Player - Inspiring Us All

You know, it's videos like this that remind me of just how good able-bodied people like myself have it. We're the ones who shouldn't be complaining about anything, but we always seem to be the ones with the biggest list of gripes. Check out this little guy. He's only got one leg, but he doesn't let it stop him from playing the game he loves.

Make it a great day!

14-Year Old Starts "No Cussing Club"

I was eating lunch the other day at a restaurant, and I was sitting in a booth adjacent to a group of teenagers who looked to be around 14 or 15 years old. I was startled when I kept over-hearing them repeatedly use profanity. It shouldn't have come as a surprise to me considering most of today's teenagers' role models from TV and music routinely use profanity every chance they get.

That's why this video I saw today was so encouraging. A 14-year old from California started a "No Cussing Club" about a year ago, and it has now spread to his entire town, where the mayor has declared a "No Cussing Week". What a great story. One of my favorite quotes from this interview is when the host asks the boy why he thinks teenagers, and adults for that matter, shouldn't cuss. His response, "Well, first of all, it makes you sound really unintelligent and it just lessons you." Well said.

If you're prone to cussing on a regular basis, why not give it a try. Try not cussing for a day and see how you feel.

Make it a great day!

Nubs The Dog Travels 70 Miles To Reunite With Soldier In Iraq

This has to be one of the best stories I've heard out of Iraq in quite some time. A Marine named Major Dennis rescued a dog in Iraq who had been severely mistreated (his ears had been cut off and he had been stabbed with a screw driver by his Iraqi owners). Major Dennis nursed him back to health as best he could, but his troop was ordered to leave the area where they were, and they couldn't take Nubs with them. (He named him Nubs because of his ears.)

They traveled 70 miles away through the desert, and miraculously, Nubs found them. By the time Nubs found them, he was in bad shape again having traveled 70 miles in very treacherous terrain.

This time, Major Dennis knew he had to get Nubs out of Iraq. He started an email campaign and raised over $3,000 to get Nubs out of Iraq and to San Diego to stay with some friends until he can be reunited with him when he returns from Iraq himself. Nubs is supposed to be landing here in the U.S. any day now. I'll keep you updated as soon as I know he's here.

Here's the remarkable story.

Make it a great day!

Are You Ready For A Refund Check?

It's official... You're refund check will be mailed out this summer. If you're single and make less than $75,000 a year, you'll get $600. If you're married and your combined income is less than $150,000, you'll get $1,200 and $300 extra for each child. It may not be a lot, but it's always nice to receive money from the government rather than always giving it away.

Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams by Randy Pausch

Randy Pausch is a professor at Carnegie Mellon University. He has terminal pancreatic cancer and has been told he only has 3 - 6 months left to live. He gave his last lecture at the university Sept. 18, 2007. In his moving lecture, he talked about his lessons learned and gave advice to students on how to achieve their own career and personal goals.

There are two videos here. The first one is about ten minutes long, and gives a great lesson about overcoming obstacles. The second video is his entire lecture, which is over an hour long, and I would recommend taking the time to watch the entire lecture at some point. You'll be moved...

Make it a great day!

I came across this video earlier this morning, and I had to share it with you. I remember watching this live and it moved me back then. It still does. For those of you who aren't familiar with Jimmy V, his name is Jim Valvano, and he was a college basketball coach whose life was cut-short by cancer. But, he lived a great life. I emphasize - Live - He made the most of his time here, and he inspired millions of others to do the same. Enjoy and make it a great day!

MSNBC Reporter, Mika Brzezinski Refuses to Report on Paris Hilton

I featured this story today on FunnyVideooftheDay.net as well, but it deserves to be here even more than there. Her point, and I couldn't agree with her more, is that Paris Hilton being released from jail should not be the lead story in a legitimate newscast considering everything else that is going on in the world right now. I respect and admire her for taking a stand. Enjoy!

The Dash - A Simple But Thought Provoking Video

I was forwarded this link to this video today. I've heard "The Dash" story before, but it's even more inspiring and thought provoking in video.

Take a moment to watch the video. It's always nice to stop and think about where our lives are headed, and if we need to make a few adjustments to get back on track.

Good luck today. Make it a great day!

Dog and Monkey are Best Friends

This is a cool video. There's no sound because it's just the raw footage with no reporter's commentary.

Here's the story, "When severe flood waters hit northern Mozambique in 2002, causing misery and extensive damage to property and crops, many animals were left to fend for themselves. But villagers in Caia witnessed a bizarre friendship between a dog and a monkey.

A skinny dog emerged from the bush with a tiny monkey clinging to its back.

The villagers have named the pair Billy and Kiko, and they've been inseparable ever since."

The Real Iraq

This morning, my wife and I were watching the news and they mentioned how over 3,000 American men and women had been killed in Iraq since the start of the war. While this is 3,000 too many soliders killed, I believe they did not die in vain. This video from Glenn Beck is a wonderful story about the real Iraq. Not the car bombings we hear about every day on the mainstream news, but what is really happening all over Iraq. Enjoy and God bless our troops!
